A Disciple's Path
What does it mean to be a disciple of Jesus Christ? Is it the same as being a church member? Is there more to this faith walk than just attending church on Sundays? These are all great questions.
A disciple, as defined by the on-line Merriam Webster dictionary, is "a person who accepts and assists in spreading the doctrines of another." A Christian disciple is a person who accepts Jesus as Lord, accepts Jesus' teachings and is committed to sharing God's message to others so that they can come to know, love and follow Jesus.
A member is defined as a person who is baptized or enrolled in a church. All new members of Cheverly United Methodist Church are asked the following question: "As members of this congregation, will you faithfully participate in its ministries by your prayers, your presence, your gifts and your service? To which people respond, "I will."
Every member of CUMC is called to live as a disciple of Jesus Christ.
Join us on Sundays, at 9AM in the parlor, to learn more about what it means to be a disciple. If you are tired of the same old, same old. If you know there is something more to this church thing, please plan to attend.
Quotes About Discipleship...
"O begin! Fix some part of everyday for private exercises. You may acquire the taste which you have not: What is tedious at first, will afterwards be pleasant. Whether you like it or no, read and pray daily. It is for your life, there is no other way, else you will be a trifler all your days." - John Wesley
"Church attendance is as vital to a disciple as a transfusion of healthy blood to a sick man - Dwight L. Moody
"We have suffered from the preaching of cheap grace. Grace is free, but it is not cheap. People will take anything that is free but they are not interested in discipleship. They will take Christ as Savior but not as Lord." Vance Havner
"Only a disciple can make a disciple." - A.W. Tozer
